Homplot Wake Up Post

Normally, Cassie wasn't one to spend a lot of time in bed. But lately, or really the last two days, it had taken everything she had to get out of bed in the morning. Someone people might have been excited to find out the king of the Greek gods was their father but for Cassie, it just made her miserable. The powers she'd felt she'd earned for her bravery now felt cheapened. It just...it just wasn't fair.

And because she'd spent more time in bed, she knew instantly when she woke up that she wasn't on the island. After the events in the Fire Nation the month before, Cassie woke up quickly and sat up at the ready, wanting to be prepared for wherever she'd found herself. It was with a small sigh of relief when she realized that she was asleep on the couch of Young Justice headquarters. She took a deep breath and made herself float for the first time in years. Even through her depression, she couldn't help a small smile.

I had fallen asleep on my computer chair back in my hut and woke up to a very different computer. As I realized something was wrong, I scrambled to my feet and grabbed Backbiter, which was sitting right near me. This wasn't my hut. Something was different. It sure wasn't Mount Orthys, either. Time for a test. I prick my fingertip gently with my sword.

Ow! Yep, blood. No curse. I guess that's a good sign. It means Kronos isn't about to take me over.

Looking around, I walk around exploring this place. And then I enter a room with Cassie in it, and she's flying or something. I lower my sword and look at her for a moment.

After the surprise of waking up in a completely different universe, and the annoyance of being greeted by people I've ticked off, I find myself the unwelcome and forced guest of a bunch of super teenagers. Greeeeeat. I'm getting the feeling nobody is going to ever get over that incident with me sticking Backbiter through that comic. And Cissie knows that back home I was able to raise an army capable of overthrowing the Olympian gods, so I'm not really all that surprised they want to 'keep an eye on me.' They're a bit limited with what they can do to me though, because I really haven't done anything that could be considered a crime since I left my own world. It's not like I'm going to fight them or they can lock me in prison. So now it's devolved into a case of reverse babysitting.

I want a distraction from the situation, so I go back to the room I woke up in with all the computers and video games. I was never really into video games before, but I've taken it up since all that equipment showed up in my hut on the island. I load up Call of Duty and start playing the beginning levels. I've gotten better, so I'm breezing through the easy stuff. The plus side of having imposed hospitality is that I get free food, shelter, and even some entertainment. Maybe we'll even order pizza later. Could be worse. I'm leaning forward on the seat with a controller in my hand and Backbiter sitting next to me as someone enters the room.

"Hey there."

My eyes are still on the screen, but I still notice and acknowledge whoever it is. Maybe somebody new is feeling the need to 'tell off the bad guy.'

Sam had been busy studying the last few days. He wasn't taking proper classes since he'd come at such an odd time, but that didn't mean he wanted to stop learning. He must have fallen asleep while studying, because he was still in his clothes. Actually, he was in his favorite clothes that he had on the island, which he didn't remember wearing that day.

Blinking his eyes, Sam wiped a way a bit of drool that had gathered at his mouth and looked around. This was not his beautiful hut. This was probably not his beautiful island. This was a much more modern room with an admittedly far more comfortable bed. Unfortunately, it wasn't his bed back home, either. It was some third bed that he'd never been in before.

"No, no, no, NO! You have got to be kidding me!" Sam shouted. He could not be transported somewhere else. This wasn't fair at all, there should be a two world transport limit or something. If you get sent to a dimension not your own, you should only be allowed to be sent back home.

[ooc: Top level for Sam, open to anyone!]

The covers were entirely too warm but Cissie knew she really ought to get up. She stretched her arms and started as she hit something warm. She hadn't remembered falling asleep with one of the dogs, though of course that didn't mean anything. Probably one of them had jumped in with her and she'd been dead asleep not to realize.

She started to pet whichever one it was then froze. That was not hair she was petting, it was muscle. She squeaked in alarm and hurriedly sat up, taking most of the sheets with her.

She was in Bart's room. In Young Justice Headquarters. No, that wasn't
quite right. She was in Bart's bed with Bart beside her in Young Justice headquarters. She was in so much trouble.

While Bart had a hard time getting to sleep, he had an even harder time waking up. So when a warm hand petted him, his first reaction was to make a soft sound and snuggle closer. The squeak, on the other hand, startled him awake because that was not something his half-asleep mind could interpret.

Starting awake, he only had a moment to take in his surroundings before the movement he made sent him crashing to the floor. "What the...?"

Then he blinked, looking around. "Tell me I'm dreaming..."

Because except for the fact that Cissie was freaking out, it might have been a very good dream.

"You usually dream about me in your bed?" Cissie burst out then blushed furiously once she realized what she said. "Wait, no! Don't answer that!" She was pretty sure she knew what the answer was and this was so not the time.

"I don't think you're dreaming... unless we both are? Can we even do that?" Cissie leaned over the side of the bed and offered Bart a hand. "I wonder if this is like when I was in New York with Claire."

[identity profile] slowspeedster.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
"If it is, this wasn't my idea," Bart said, trying to decide if he really should stand up. And then he realized he really shouldn't because certain parts of his body had enjoyed being close to another person in bed and that didn't really bear explaining. Even thinking about it made him blush, and this was really not a good time.

"And, well, this hasn't been home to me in, well, ages."

[personal profile] arrowette 2011-03-26 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
"That's right," Cissie said, sprawling on her side when he didn't take the offered hand. She didn't blame him for not wanting to get up. She was pretty sure she didn't want to get up right now either. "I keep forgetting that it's... all over for you guys. You all went and joined the Titans."

[identity profile] slowspeedster.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
"I could say it's over for you, too, Miss Arrowette," Bart teased, shifting so his back was against the side of the bed as he tried to think. "What about you? Any secret desires for the good old days?"
arrowette: (PB: Normal girl (really))

[personal profile] arrowette 2011-03-26 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
"No," Cissie said, lightly smacking the back of his head. "I mean. I don't know. I used to think it was so... so black and white, that I screwed up once and so that was it forever. But I keep thinking that maybe it's not like that. Maybe it was because I wasn't really doing it for the right reason and that maybe someday she can come back if she's needed. Or wanted."

[identity profile] slowspeedster.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
"I'd rather have you at my side than any other archer," Bart said, even though he wanted to say it without any qualifications at all. He shifted so he could look at her, and smiled.

It sobered as he thought about where they were, and the possible implications. "If this is like last month, you know there are only three other people on the island who would even know what my room here looks like."

He waited a beat. "You want to see who else is here or yell at Cassie?"

She stopped herself from reaching out and ruffling Bart's hair. Shifting so she could lean her head against his was probably bad enough but she'd just woken up back home in the one place she never imagined be so she was allowed to take a little comfort.

"I suppose we should," she said reluctantly. "I guess we can't really hide in here forever."

Once Sam had calmed down and learned what had happened, he was only slightly less freaked out than when he had no clue what was going on. Apparently Cassie had disappeared to take care of who knows what so Sam was pretty much on his own for the moment.

First things first, Sam had checked to see if he or his family existed at all in this reality. It hadn't taken him very long to find out that they didn't. After that he had raided the fridge for all the things he couldn't get on the island and then set out to find where the video games were. Cassie had mentioned them enough times that he knew they had to be around.

With a soda in one hand an a stash of beef jerky, Doritos, and red vines in the other he poked his head in one of the rooms and smiled when he realized it was the right one. Someone was already in there, some guy with a sword, Sam thought he had seen him around the island before, playing.

"Hey, you mind if I jump in on this?"

[identity profile] slowspeedster.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Would you want to?" Bart asked, trying to stay mostly neutral. "Stay here, with me, I mean."

He had to ask, even though it was a really, really bad idea. He just wanted to know if this was just some cruel twist of fate or...he didn't even know what the other options were.

[identity profile] luke-castellan.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I take a moment to crane my head and look at the guy before returning my gaze to the enemies I'm eliminating.

"No problem, jump right in. You're from the island, aren't you?"

I'm fairly certain of that. I've seen him around.
arrowette: (PB: Shy)

[personal profile] arrowette 2011-03-26 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"I really do," Cissie admitted. Even leaving aside the fact that staying meant she had a reason to keep curling up with him, the prospect of seeing just when they were was scary. What if it was just the two of them? What if it was some other parallel Earth? Oh god, what if they were on the Earth where everyone was evil?

"I mean, I really kinda want to stay here. With you."

[identity profile] slowspeedster.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
"If we stay here, that increases the likelihood of someone seeing you in my room. Which would lead to questions I don't know how to answer," Bart said. Then his stomach growled. "Besides, I'm starving."
arrowette: (PB: Innocent)

[personal profile] arrowette 2011-03-27 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
"I think we're screwed either way," Cissie pointed out. "Either they're going to see me here and ask questions or they're going to see us coming out of your room together and ask questions."

"And besides, if you're starving, you can zip out to the kitchen and back without anyone seeing you. You've got your speed back, don't you?"

[identity profile] slowspeedster.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
"It'd burn nearly as many calories as I ate," Bart said, rolling his eyes. "And maybe I don't want to leave you alone to deal."

He'd known almost the moment he woke and realized where he was that the Speed Force was there, but he wasn't going to do anything with it. Because if prior experience held, he'd need it.
arrowette: (PB: Shy)

[personal profile] arrowette 2011-03-27 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
"You could take me with you," Cissie said. It wasn't as if they hadn't done that sort of thing before, though admittedly not for reasons involving a kitchen run. "Then at least if we get questions, we can act like we've been in the kitchen the whole time and maybe avoid questions that way."

[identity profile] slowspeedster.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Bart hesitated, looking at her. Explaining the things he couldn't do with an ordinary person along for the ride was something he tried to avoid. Because it was bordering on insulting to say that he couldn't protect them, and someone like Kon or Cassie didn't need that same protection.

"I can't run fast enough to avoid notice when carrying someone. Well, not the same way. It's just that my aura protects me, but doesn't extend like Kon's tactile telekinesis," he explained. Then groaned. "And you are never mentioning that I used that in an explanation."

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Sam sat down next to the other guy and set his stash of snacks on the floor. This was what he should be doing right now, back in his world. He should be crashing on someone's dorm couch playing video games and eating crap food. Instead he was in another universe, crashing on a couch in a superheroes headquarters worrying about Cassie and when she was going to be back.

"Yeah, I am," he said, picking up a controller. "Sam Witwicky. I've been there for just over a month."

[identity profile] luke-castellan.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
I pause the game and turn to face Sam.

"I'm Luke," I say, not bothering with a last name like usual.

"Are you one of the superhero-type people from here?"

I, sure as Hades, am not. I've got no idea if Sam is just here to play video games or 'keep an eye on me.'

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Uh, no. No costumes or uniforms or powers for me," Sam said. He wasn't exactly a completely normal guy, or at least he had some abnormal friends in the Autobots, but he wasn't going to share his whole life story with someone at the moment.

"I have no idea why I'm here. Put they have junk food and video games so for the moment, I'm going to just roll with it."

[identity profile] luke-castellan.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Good enough for me," I reply. "In fact, that's my plan for now."

I save my game and exit completely. I'll just assume Sam is a relatively normal guy who's got no idea how unpopular I've just become with the local crowd here. It might be good to have someone around here not hate me yet. So, I guess we'll just hang out.

"Go ahead and pick something. I'm not real good at video games yet, but I pick it up quick."

I'd say I've got pretty good reflexes and can think on my feet. It's not just good for live combat.
