Sam had been looking all over the island for Cassie the last few days. He figured that she had been turned 7, or worse, some sort of horrible pre-teen/early teen age where she felt about 100 times more awkward than normal. At least, that was Sam's experience with it. He was slightly pissed that she was hiding from him, especially after their honest talk, but he was pretty sure they'd talk it out.

He'd decided to try for a bit of a jog that morning and while he had to go extremely slow because of his wound, he still managed to go at a fair pace without hurting himself much. He stuck to the trails close to the beach for the most part, but toward the end he decided to push himself and run along the sand. Heading out of the tree line, Sam was lost in his thoughts and almost didn't notice the other guy and the dog on the beach until it was too late.

As it was, Iris's growl and bark startled him enough that he let out a bit of a scream. With a burst of energy, he started sprinting toward the water where he'd have an advantage over the dog. He didn't even wait to see if Iris was following after him or wonder why Iris was with a guy, that sort of delay could land him with some serious wounds.

"Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit. No, no, no, no, bad dog!" he shouted as he plunged into the waves.
