While Kon is sick with the chicken pox, Cassie brings him soup and keeps him company.
Slowly but surely since Bart had disappeared, Cassie had started visiting the treehouse more and more. With Tim now living with Dick, she knew Kon must be lonely. Not that she was up to moving back in but...baby steps. And that's how she'd found out Kon was sick. With the chicken pox of all things. Admittingly, she'd felt bad when she walked in, seen the pox on his face and burst out laughing, since she'd had it when she was four. And so to make up with it, she'd gone all the way to the Compound to bring him what her mother had made for her. Chicken Noodle Soup.
She climbed up into the tree house and walked over to Kon's room, pulling the container of soup out of her shoulder bag. "I'm back and I bring you a peace offering."
Kon eyed her suspiciously. "You're not going to laugh again, are you?" Although really there was no question that he was going to let her back in. First, it was Cassie. Second, it was, well, Cassie. And third, he could smell the soup from here. And man he was hungry. Feeling sick sucked when you lived so far away from the Compound. Especially when there rarely was anyone left at the Treehouse. Except Cassie. She always came by.
When he mentioned it, Cassie bit her lip to stop the giggle and concentrated on finding the spoon she'd stolen as well in her bag. "Promise. No laughing just soup." Since she had no fear of getting the chicken pox again, she came and plopped right down next to him on the bed. "How you feeling?" She asked as she transferred the soup from the container to a bowl.
"Itchy," Kon muttered. "I saw Tim briefly and I think he's going to bring me something soon." Soon couldn't be too close. "I..." He glanced at her. "I won't get you sick, right? You being here?" The last thing he wanted to do was get her sick just when they were starting to fix things.
Cassie nodded. "Good. You need to put some cream or something on them so they don't scar. And remember, don't scratch!" She slapped his hand lightly, holding the bowl in her other hand. Then she rolled her eyes as she finally handed the bowl to him. "Kon, I've already told you. I had this when I was four. I promise, I'll be okay. And here, I made you what my mom made for me. Chicken noodle soup. It does wonders."
"Oww, hey! I wasn't scratching them." Kon rubbed his hand and then smiled at her. "Thanks, Cass." He took the bowl and started eating almost as quickly as he could get the spoon from the bowl to his mouth. "Err, how long does this last again?" He hoped only a few days. He wasn't sure he could deal with not itching them for more than that.
"Wow! Chew your food there mister!" Cassie said with a small chuckle as she watched Kon inhaled the soup. "Only a few days I promise. And you better enjoy this. I promise, this pampering won't last forever." She teased good naturedly as she got up to refill the cup of water by his bed.
"But it'll last for a while, right?" he teased, winking at her. "Just a little while?" Figures that when he gets special treatment he doesn't feel up to taking advantage of it beyond in the way it was intended. Still, he guessed it was good that he wouldn't try to overstep the bounds or something.
"Only until the last pox mark fades. Then your on your own again mister." She said with an equally cheery wink. "No more Wonder loving for you after that."
"Wonder lovin' had me a bla-a-a-ast. Wonder lovin', happened so fa-a-a-ast." Okay, so he couldn't help it. He wanted to make her laugh.
And laugh she did. Then she patted his cheek as she sat back down. "Your cute when your delirious. Can I get you anything else, Grease Lightening?"
"'m not delirious, Cass." Kon wrapped his blankets around himself. Was it supposed to be chilly on a tropical island? "Just miss seeing you laugh."
That made Cassie pause. "I laugh all the time." Didn't she? But then she noticed Kon acting cold and she got up. "Do you need another blanket? Are you cold?"
"With me?" Maybe it was just him who didn't laugh. "Just a little. Stop fretting " He scratched at his neck. "'m fine."
Cassie...didn't know what to say. So she just swatted his hand. "I'll stop fretting when you stop scratching."
"Oww!" Kon pulled his hand back and pouted at her. "Cassie!"
Adding another blanket to the bed anyway, Cassie sat back down besides him with a raised eyebrow. "I told you."
Kon burrowed under the blanket and scowled at her. After a minute, though, he shifted so that he was leaning against her. There wasn't much that he could think of that was better than this. Except maybe if he weren't so cold.
