For Kon

This was getting ridiculous. She was so tired of feeling angry and there really was only one way to fix that. She needed to talk to Kon. Needed to know once and for all where they stood, for better or for worse and she would never be able to move on until she did.

Cassie loved Kon, always would, she knew that now. But this was just getting more then she could bare.

Iris was left with Cissie for the a while as Cassie made her way to Kon's hut. Before coming, she'd spent an hour with her heavy bag in the hopes of having a level head for the upcoming conversation, which could easily end in tears otherwise. After taking a deep breath, she knocked on the door.

Kon's smile dimmed a little when he took in what she'd asked. She wanted to go for a walk. It sounded like the beginning of a breakup speech, but they'd broken up a long time ago. "Sure." What could be the harm in a little talk, right?

It did feel like they were breaking up though, at least to Cassie. She wanted to move on and she had a feeling Kon did too. It was just time to make it official. "Come on then. The beach is really nice today." She went to the door and waited for him.

"The beach is always nice," Kon teased even if it wasn't quite true. It was almost always nice. It did rain sometimes and there were storms and one month out of the year everything was snowy. Other than that, it was pretty perfect.

Perfect. That was the word of the week, wasn't it?

If it was, Cassie didn't know. Things didn't feel perfect at all.

After hitting Kon for his teasing with a laugh, she led him down the path and didn't speak again until they were walking in the sand. "So, I think we need to talk about us." She said simply to start them off.

"Yeah, I..." Kon pressed his lips together and then decided that she needed to know. "I always felt guilty that we weren't this perfect couple like I thought we should have been, you know?" His words were quiet and he was almost ashamed because they weren't. "But then I talked to Bart and apparently things aren't peaches and cream back home either."

If anything, what Kon said let her breath a small sigh of relief and she gave him a small smile. "Me too. I thought we were supposed to be have some fairy tale ever after and couldn't understand why we didn't." She wasn't really happy about it either, but it was nice to know she wasn't the only one who thought that way. "Tim said he was surprised we weren't closer here, considering. I guess some things are true no matter where or how they happen."

"I love you. I do." He didn't think he'd ever stop loving her, not really. Just like he still loved Tana. "I just think I'm where you were before you started seeing Chekov. I just need some time." He needed time with some because he'd had plenty of time being alone. Or at least he needed time alone when he felt like he actually was alone and not waiting for something that might or might not happen down the line.

"I've loved you for a long time." Cassie said in reply because she had. She'd loved him since the first time she'd seen him. "I probably always will." She paused for a moment to think of the best way to say what she wanted too. "I know you need time. I just don't think I can wait for you anymore. I need to get on with my life, whether it includes you or not." And by with him she just meant as her boyfriend or whatever. What ever happened, she hoped he knew that he would always be one of his best friends. "Whatever happens down the line...we can deal with that then. But for right now, I think this is best."

"I'm sorry, Cass. I thought I just needed time. After the jungle, I just didn't want to ruin your relationship with him. I just wanted you to be happy and by the time I realized that he was gone...you were so mad at me and things went downhill from there."

He'd just wanted some time to get his head around the possibility of them getting back together, but by that point he'd started looking at other people. He'd started being ready to date again, not that he had anyone to date. He'd just been afraid to tell Cassie.

"I was mad. I was hurt you weren't there when I needed you, especially after Chekov told me what happened. But, I got over it and expected something that I'm not even sure I wanted. I just...expected it and it's made me angry ever since." Angry at him, angry at herself, angry at the island for making it worse.

She stopped and reached up to cup his face in her hands. "Neither of us is happy like this, with the possibility of 'us' hanging over us. So, let's just take it out of the equation." Then stood up higher and kissed him lightly. "I love you, but I think it's time we were both happy."

Kon sucked in a deep breath and let it out slowly. "Yes. I just want us to be happy, regardless of whether we're in a relationship or not. You're one of my best friends, Cass, and things are awkward enough with Tim and Bart and now Clark's here that having you back as my rock is something I'd give about everything for."

Cassie's hands fell from his face and one went down to take one of his. "Then consider it done. I much prefer having you as a best friend then a boyfriend anyway, Kon. We fight less for starters." She added with a teasing smile.

"And now, speaking of boyfriends...I think Bart and Cissie need a kick in the pants, because if they end up like us, there will be hell to pay..." She said as she started walking down the beach again, pulling Kon after her.
