Homplot Wake Up Post

Normally, Cassie wasn't one to spend a lot of time in bed. But lately, or really the last two days, it had taken everything she had to get out of bed in the morning. Someone people might have been excited to find out the king of the Greek gods was their father but for Cassie, it just made her miserable. The powers she'd felt she'd earned for her bravery now felt cheapened. It just...it just wasn't fair.

And because she'd spent more time in bed, she knew instantly when she woke up that she wasn't on the island. After the events in the Fire Nation the month before, Cassie woke up quickly and sat up at the ready, wanting to be prepared for wherever she'd found herself. It was with a small sigh of relief when she realized that she was asleep on the couch of Young Justice headquarters. She took a deep breath and made herself float for the first time in years. Even through her depression, she couldn't help a small smile.

Leaving her mom had put her in a melancholy mood but Sam jumping to his feet so eagerly to see her brought a small smile to her face. It surprised her how really glad she was to see him at this moment.

"Hi. Yeah, I'm here. I'm really sorry about leaving like I did this morning..." She paused a moment to swallow down her emotions. "I had something I needed to do."

"Good, I was, uh, hoping you'd be here," Sam said. He thought about adding some sort of qualified, like because he wanted to see a familiar face, or because she was a good friend. Sam decided to just go ahead and not add that qualifier. Maybe it was just... maybe he should just not qualify that for once. No need to, right?

"You okay though? You look like... like this is not a super happy fun time dream for you. Shouldn't you have muscled guys waving palm fronds and feeding you grapes or something?"

"I'm glad you're here too Sam." Cassie said to help, biting her lip against the bright smile that wanted to erupt.

Then she sighed and the smile faded. "No, it hasn't been fun, but it was something I needed. I found out something on the island and I needed to talk to someone about it here. This gave me that opportunity so while it wasn't something I liked, it did give me closure in a sense." At least she wouldn't be hiding in her hut anymore, like she had been before they'd woken up here.

"So is that why I haven't seen you around for the past few days?"

He had almost been ready to chalk it up to overreacting, he had gotten pretty good at "randomly" bumping into her around the island often enough that they sort of had a pseudo arrangement where they saw each other nearly every day.

"Another day and I was getting going to trek all the way out to your hut to check on you."

"Yeah." Cassie said simply, giving him a small half smile. She'd missed Sam the last few days but she just couldn't explain her current mood. Finding out Zeus was her father had just been too much.

Then her smile got brighter. "That's sweet of you. But I'm okay now, I promise. Now, I think I have something to show you." She grabbed his hand and pulled him outside.

Sam gave a bit of a yelp as she grabbed his hand and pulled him along. A sort of strange thrill shot through him at the physical contact and he couldn't help but give a slightly goofy smile.

"If it's the fridge with all the amazing food we don't get back on the island, I've seen. And the video games."

"Personally, I think its cooler then that." Cassie let go of his hand and moved to stand out in the open. And then she left her feet lift off the ground.

It was one thing to know that Cassie could fly, to see that sort of thing in movies and tv shows. It was something completely different to actually see it happen, to watch a human being just raise off the ground like that.

"Okay, that is seriously cool. And you can just... float up like that whenever you want?"

"Yep." The happiness she felt just by being able to fly again was multiplied by being able to share it with Sam. And a little by proving to him she was right all along.

She flew up higher and did a quick spin and flip, not even trying to resist the urge to show off a little. "They don't call me Wonder Girl for nothing."

Sam watched her flip and fly in the air, grinning at how happy she was. If this really was all a dream, he hoped she wouldn't be too upset to not be able to do it again once they woke up.

"I could probably come up with a whole list of reasons they would call you Wonder Girl. Alphabetized, too, if you give me a few moments."

Oh, Cassie would be upset again, but only as much as she usually was when she missed her powers. Right now, right now she was satisfied in being able to feel their freedom again, even just for a little while.

At first, she wasn't sure she heard Sam right and she gave him teasing look from the air. But then she bit her lip as the thought crept into her mind that he might be...well...serious. "Alright, start with A." She challenged, wondering how he would duck out of it...or if he would do it.

"Seriously?" he asked, giving her a look. "You're going to start with A? A is easy, I've got lots for A."

It was sort of like a game, one where Sam could freely compliment her without it getting too weird. At least he hoped that it wouldn't get weird.

"Amazing, athletic, attractive, authentic, awesome, ambitious, adventurous... currently you're aeronautic..."

Well heck...Sam was doing it. Cassie could only hope that the fact she was still high up would make it so he wouldn't see the surprised look in her eyes.

And he didn't seem to be teasing either.

Still, that was the only way she could think to reply. "Oh, pulling out the SAT words I see. Alright college boy, what about, oh....J."

"J, j, j... jovial," Sam said after just a moments hesitation. Not an easy letter for sure, but Cassie had a lot of good qualities which helped.

"Just, jocund, jocose, and judicious."

Sam grinned and spread his arms wide in the universal gesture of "bring it on."

"Okay, I really don't think half of those words are real." Cassie said with a laugh to hide the flush that was creepy up now. While the praise was nice, she wanted to get him to stop because this was getting a little odd.

But if she gave up the game, he'd know it was affecting her. "Okay...Z."

"Trust me, they're all real," he told her with a laugh of his own. He was glad she wasn't too bothered by it, although Sam felt a bit bare complimenting her so openly about it with just the thin veil of a joke or contest between them.

"Zinciferous, because technically you do contain zinc. And I'll have to actually thank my junior year science teacher for making me learn. Zesty. Zealous. Zippy."

"Zinciferous. Seriously?" Cassies said as she shook her head and came back down to the ground finally. "Though I am rather zippy."

She gave him a playful smirk before she zipped around behind him and picked him up under his arms and flew up to the roof of Young Justice headquarters. Gently placing him down, she zipped back to sit next to him. The sun had gone down, the stars were coming out and it was just the pretty sight to put a stop to the game before it got really awkward. When he looked at her, she just gave him an innocent expression.

"It's completely true," Sam said, looking up at her. She seemed to have accepted that he could come up with adjectives for every letter though, which Sam counted as a win.

Because he could make a comment about that though, Cassie picked in up and flew! Sam screamed in surprise and twisted a bit in panic for a moment before realizing that would only increase his chances of being dropped.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" he said, waving his hands about and completely missing the nice scenery once she put him down. "That... no. No, no, no to that happening again."

Cassie just kept with the innocent expression. "But, I wanted to show you the stars." She bit her lip to keep from laughing because she didn't want him to hate her. "And you know, your going to have to get down somehow."

"You know what? I think I'll just stay up here until someone comes with a ladder or something," Sam said, glancing down a bit before scooting away from the edge.

"Or I can just stay here. You can bring me food and water and I'll just live here from now on."

"Okay it was cute at first but now you're just being a baby." Cassie rolled her eyes and reached out to smack him in the shoulder, forgetting her returned strength.

"Hey, I'm not-"

Sam grunted as she hit him in the shoulder, not expecting her to hit him that hard at all. Standing near the edge, he failed a bit before he tumbled over the side.

"Oh shit!"

"Oh Hera!" Cassie saw him fall and was reacting a moment later. She flew down and scooped him up, flying back to the top of the roof so there was less chance of falling. "Oh my gosh, Sam, I'm so sorry!"

Almost before he knew what was going on, Sam back on top of the headquarters. He would have preferred that she had placed him back on the ground, but for now he would just be happy that he wasn't falling.

"No, no, no, it's fine," he said, shaking his head while he caught his breath. "I should have watched where I was standing. You know, rooftops without rails, should have definitely been standing back."

Cassie felt awful as he panicked. "Here." She put her arms around his waist, sitting right next to him as she could brace him in case he began to fall again. "I just...I wanted to show you the stars. I can fly you down if you really want..." She tried to hide the disappointment in her voice as she offered but she didn't want him scared either.
